Kids Library Scavenger Hunt

On Friday, November 22nd at 3:30 pm, Miss Cherie is hosting a library scavenger hunt here at Fairview! One of our public computers will have the Four County webpage up so that kids may use it to search for items if they so choose. Once the list has been completed, each child will receive a prize from us to show how thankful we are for our Library Littles!

“Toddler Time” coming to Fairview Library!!!

As of December 5, 2019 at 11:30 am Preschool Story Time will become “Toddler Time” for ages 18 months – 3 years. We have some exciting stuff planned with A LOT of music and movement, some sensory and motor activities and even puppets! Below is a photo of one of 4 felt story boards we got to mix and match to encourage storytelling and immersion in the story. (As you can see, Clifford approves!)

Preschool Storytime Revamp to Toddler Time

We would like to revamp our “Preschool Storytime” and refine it as “Toddler Time” with a focus on movement, motor skills, music, and story telling. This would be for toddlers 18 months to 3 years of age.

We’d like some input on the best time to hold this on a Thursday. Please visit our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/pages/category/Library/Fairview-Public-Library-107061099352597/ to cast your vote in our poll for which time you would prefer. If neither time works, please either message us on Facebook to let us know your preferred time (keeping in mind that this would be on Thursdays).

Thank you for your help and participation!

The Gift of Reading

Fairview Library is excited to share that we have been part of a wonderful opportunity to give the gift of reading (and we all know how much library employees love that)!

We had been asked by former board member, Agnes Freas, to collect books that might appeal to boys of a variety of ages to be sent to Eagle Harbor Boys Ranch through the Alpha Delta Women’s Club. After collecting a large assortment, we gave them to Agnes who took them to be given to the boys.

Here is the email we received from Agnes in response:

“Barbara and I delivered all of the books that you so graciously compiled for me. Liz Gilbert (center of photo) is the head of Eagle Harbor Boys Ranch in Summerville, SC. They offer refuge to orphaned, neglected and abused boys in a loving family style environment. Alpha Delta Women’s Club in our Del Webb Cane Bay community here in Summerville is instrumental in providing monetary and material assistance. As a club we fundraise and help several Charity Organizations of which Eagle Harbor Boys Ranch is one. At Christmas we bake and take cookies and pastries to the home so that the boys know they are in our thoughts. The Del Webb Fishing club also teaches the boys how to fish and the Del Webb Pickleball Club donated paddles and balls so that they can learn how to play Pickleball. It is outreach like this that makes our world a better place and those less fortunate know they are not forgotten. I thank you on behalf of Alpha Delta Women’s Club for your generosity in supplying all those great books which, I am sure, the boys will enjoy.”

We are so thrilled to have been given the chance to give these boys such a wonderful resource!

How Reading with Therapy Dogs Helps Kids Overcome

Every other week, Thunder, a local therapy dog visits our library in the hopes of reading and visiting with some of our Library Littles (Kids are his favorite people!). His next appearance will be October 17th at 3:30 pm. Below is an interesting article about how reading with therapy dogs can help children overcome their frustrations, shyness over reading aloud, as well as teaching empathy and compassion toward others.

Thunder has made several visits to our library and is now so at home here that after greeting us at the front desk, he heads straight to the children’s room all on his own and awaits his cherished friends. Kids can come and read or simply listen to the stories and visit with Thunder. He’s always happy with littles by his side!
