In Memory of Carol M. Gorham

It is with great sadness that we say good-bye to our dear friend, Carol M. Gorham. Not only was Carol a passionate historian for both the Village and Town of Lisle, she was a dedicated friend, an avid supporter of the Lisle Free Library, and a vibrant member of the community.  She spent countless hours over the years tending the local history and genealogy records in the library and helping others with their genealogy research.  Carol will be greatly missed by all for many years to come.

On a personal note, when I was first hired as director of the Lisle Free Library just over a year ago, Carol was always quick to offer me support, guidance, advise, a listening ear, and a much needed laugh (or sugar treat!) just when I needed it the most.  She was like the library’s angel or the grandmother that I never had.  I may not have known her as long as some, but she was one of my dearest friends.  The library seems so empty without her.  Her legacy and memory will not be forgotten!

Carol Mary Gorham (Nicholson) of Lisle, passed away on July 23, 2017. She was born in Boston, MA, on September 29, 1942.

She was predeceased by her father, George A. Gorham; her son, David R. Nicholson and great granddaughter, Caeli Rose Cornue. She is survived by her mother, Caroline L. Foley, Falmouth, MA; mother of Patricia M. (Mark) Burritt Cazenovia, Roderick M. (Jennifer) Nicholson Lisle, Venus C. (John) Britt, Oakton, VA, and Judith C. Nicholson (Robert R.),  Rockville, MD; grandmother of Allison P. (Ian) Cornue, Laura N. (Bryon) Safewright, Caroline O. Britt, Elizabeth A. Britt and Alexis L. Nicholson; great grandmother of Viola R. and Arielle M. Cornue; sister of Christine A. Gorham, East Falmouth, MA, Leanne Fortin, Hampton, NH,  Lisa K. (William) Van Norman, Hamilton, MA, Janice F. (Daniel) Jacob, Medford, MA, Mark P. Foley, S. Yarmouth, MA; several nieces and nephews.

Carol’s biggest joy was the love she had for her family. She was extremely proud of all her children and grandchildren.  Carol was passionate about her work as the Village of Lisle Historian and Deputy Historian for the Town of Lisle. She was truly driven in her genealogical research for many families. She enjoyed tending daily to her house plants and garden. She was a patriotic Gold Star Mother, a member of the Whitney Point American Legion, and Ladies Auxiliary.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 11:00am Wednesday at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Whitney Point.  Burial will follow in Lisle Village Cemetery.
