Manager’s Report 1st
Quarter 2024
·
The
SRP mini-grant through 4cls that was applied for was turned down and other
funding for SRP programs has been applied for. Several agencies have been
contacted and are scheduling free programs for SRP.
·
After
setting up an account with TFOP (tax form ordering program) and ordering
Federal tax forms for patrons it was presumed that the State Income Tax forms
would automatically be sent to the library. When they did not arrive; the State
was called and it was ascertained that Springfield Library did not have an
account with the State as they were not aware of the library’s existence. An
account was established and tax forms were immediately sent.
·
A
grant application was submitted to the Anna L. Mabey Foundation to fund the
replacement of one circulation desk computer and one patron desktop
computer. An award for the full amount
requested was received.
·
Melinda
(statistics) and Deb (financials) worked on and submitted the Annual Report to
NYSED.
·
The
Annual Appeal Letter was constructed by Cheryl and Martha. Cheryl labeled all
of the envelopes. Martha designed and produced a library brochure. Martha
stuffed and mailed the letter and brochure to over 1000 local residents.
·
Spectrum
installed a new phone line. A new phone with three handsets was purchased. The
fax was connected and is now operable.
·
“The
Cooperstown and Charlotte Valley Railroad” program presented by Jim Loudon was
postponed one month until March 28th. This program was held in the
Community Room in collaboration with The Springfield Community Center. It was
well attended and received.
·
The
“Make a Tea Cup Bird Feeder” and “Gardener’s Soil Testing” programs were not
well attended. Possibly due to the time of day.
·
A
Brother printer was donated to the library, however 4cls’ IT Department is not
able to connect it to the library’s network/computers. The Epson printer is
connected to the staff computers and we are trying to get it connected to the
Patron computers but so far have not had any luck due to the multiple network.
The HP printer is out of ink and the small cartridges that it takes are
expensive to buy. It is however serving as a fax.
·
The
Cornell Cooperative Extension’s Master Gardener Program has furnished the
library with seeds, distribution container and signage for the library’s “Seed
Exchange”. They are also collaborating with the library’s “Gardening Program”
to provide soil testing and gardening information.
·
The
library provided two programs (one for homeschoolers and one for the general
public) on viewing the Solar Eclipse thanks to the loan of the Solar Eclipse
Viewing Kit which is one of three kits located in New York State that was
provided by S.E.A.L./ Starnet. The kit is housed at
the Mid-York Library System headquarters in Utica. MYLS graciously loaned it to
Springfield for the programs. The programs were well attended and the library
was also given Eclipse viewing glasses to distribute to library patrons.
·
The
library has a new table that was donated by the Hamilton Library. Pg.1
·
Multiple
webinars were attended including: “Smokey the Bear Reading Challenge”,
“Homeschoolers in the Library”, “Web Browsing”, “SRP Performers”, “Indigenous
New York Populations; inclusivity”, “Low cost and free Programs”, and more.
·
4cls
is looking into the “Princh” printing program.
Details are on the following attachment.
·
PRINCH
From Steve Bachman:
At last month’s director’s call we spoke about a service called Princh that provides a way for patrons to print to library
printers from their mobile devices. We have seen it work and it looks
like a great solution.
Here are a few more details:
· From a
mobile device (phone, tablet, laptop, etc), patrons
scan a QR code to send a document to the printer
· Staff
release the print job using Princh software on a Circ
desk computer
· Patrons
can pay by ApplePay. GooglePay,
bank card, or pay in cash at the desk
· Princh will collect the funds and
distribute quarterly (minus credit card fees)
Pricing ranges based on population served:
· Under
5K - $249 per year
· 5K –
10K - $399 per year
· 10K –
25K - $499 per year
· Over
25K - $699 per year
· A 5%
discount kicks in if 10 libraries sign up
More information about Princh is
available at their Welcome Center, including demos and interactive
guides.
We have arranged for a virtual meeting with the Princh rep on Wednesday, April 10 at 2 PM.
If you have questions, but cannot attend, send them to me and
we’ll try to get them answered.
