We have an addition to our John Sandford collection: Escape Clause: A Virgil Flowers Novel. We have several of Mr. Sandford’s books, many in large print; this latest entry is in regular print. Mysteries and thrillers are favorites with Smyrna readers, and we have a good-sized selection, particularly in large print.
Any day is a good day to take your child to the library, and at the Smyrna Public Library we are holding a celebration on Saturday, February 4th, from 10:00 a.m. till noon. You and your children may drop by anytime during these hours. You will be able to get a sample of a Children’s Storytime with books read aloud and a craft project and refreshments. I will be happy to introduce our computer resources, such as ABCmouse, as well as our books, puppets, and games. Come discover the gateway to the world provided by your library. I am always delighted to share my love of reading and learning new things with people of all ages, and especially on February 4th which is my birthday.
On Friday, January 27, at 10:30 a.m., Children’s Storytime will have “The Color Red” for a theme, featuring the book A Ride on the Red Mare’s Back by Ursula K. Le Guin. Future Storytime dates: Friday, February 10, and Friday, February 24, both at 10:30 a.m.
The Play-Reading Group will meet again on Thursday, January 26, at 7:00 p.m. We will pick up where we left off at our first meeting with Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: Part One, Act Two. If you have your own copy of the script, please bring it with you, but a few copies will be on hand at our library. Come join us—it’s fun! All are welcome. If you did not attend the first meeting, have no fear—we will catch you up on the storyline.
Wintry Weather and the Library
When weather and road conditions warrant closing the library early or for the entire day, a notice will be placed on our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/SmyrnaLibrary/. In general, if the Sherburne-Earlville Central School is closed, the Smyrna Public Library will be closed also.
There will be a meeting of the Smyrna Public Library Board of Trustees on Thursday, January 19, at 1:00 p.m.
The Smyrna Public Library is closing today at 4:00 p;m. The Office of the Smyrna Village Clerk is also closed today.
On Friday, January 13, at 10:30 a.m., we will celebrate the birth of the new year with books about birthdays. We will also commemorate unbirthdays as introduced by Lewis Carroll in Through the Looking Glass, the continuation of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
