If you (or someone you know) would like help with your taxes, AARP will be at the Sidney Library during tax season. AARP will provide services to senior citizens and people with lower incomes on the following dates:
- Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017
- Thursday, March 9, 2017
- Wednesday, March 15, 2017
- Thursday, April 6, 2017
Signups are required and must be done by calling Sidney Senior Meals (563-2212) after February 1st.
The Sidney Library will have a limited supply of federal income tax forms and instructions in the near future. We will no longer have access to reproducible federal forms. This is due to the continued growth in electronic filing (e-filing) and the IRS’s attempt to reduce costs.
Don’t worry: there are ways to get any federal form or instruction packet. The IRS website, www.irs.gov, always has forms available for download. In addition, you can call and request forms be mailed to you. According to the IRS website:
You can call 1-800-TAX-FORM (800-829-3676) Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time to order current year forms, instructions and publications as well as prior year forms and instructions by mail. You will receive your order by mail, usually within 10 days.
We expect to have our regular supply of state income tax forms.
If you do your taxes and would like free copies of common tax forms such as the 1040 and 1040EZ, stop by the Sidney Library. By the end of January we should have a variety of these forms for you to take. Check for the display in our DVD and Wireless Room.
If you haven’t stopped into the Sidney Library’s DVD room recently, please note that we have set up a table where you can pick up both Federal and NYS tax forms and instruction booklets.
