Try Our New Piano

The public is welcome to try out our recently donated Chickering and Sons baby grand piano. It is located in the Smart Community Room and is open to anyone who reads and signs our Piano Use Policy (located at the circulation desk). Just check in with a staff member to make sure the piano is available.

Changes to Children’s Programs

Our staff has been hard at work making updates to our offering of children’s programs here at the Sidney Library. If you bring children for story time or Lego time, be sure to check the dates and times, available:


Book Sale – 4/23 to 4/25

Our big book sale is coming up this week. This is a three day sale featuring books, movies, magazines, and more at extremely low prices. Come join us in the Smart Community Room on the following dates:

  • Thursday 4/23, 6:00 – 8:00pm
  • Friday 4/24, 9:30am – 5:00pm
  • Saturday 4/25, 10:00am – 1:00pm

Musical Performance 2/8

The duo Party of Two, featuring Judy Pitel on vocals and JoAnn Chmielowski on piano/keyboard, will be performing at the Sidney Library. These talented ladies will perform a variety of music spanning multiple decades. We hope you will join us on Sunday 2/8 at 1pm in the Smart Community Room for this wonderful program that is free to the public.

This event was rescheduled for Sunday 3/1 at 1pm.

Computer Classes in December


Do you know someone who would like to learn more about using their computer? The Sidney Library’s Public Computing Center (PCC) will teach these workshops and more in December:

  • Shopping for Tech (Dec. 4th) – we will provide help choosing a technological gift that best suits that special someone on your gift list.
  • Creating Holiday Cards and Tags (Dec. 11th) – learn to create your own holiday cards and tags using Microsoft Word and Publisher.
  • Music and Audio Apps (Dec. 19th) – Learn how to use your device to listen to music, talk shows, and podcasts.
  • Get Help with New Devices (Dec. 29th 9:30 – 11am, and Dec. 30th 11-1) – Did you receive a new device for Christmas and would like help getting acquainted with it? Stop in with the device and we will help you get it set up.

Jazz Performance – Sunday 5/18


Miles Ahead Jazz Quartet, a talented group of musicians from the Binghamton music scene, will be performing in the Sidney Library’s Smart Community Room on Sunday May 18th at 1:30pm. We are excited to be hosting them and hope you will join us!

Children’s Programs This Week


In addition to our weekly children’s programs, we will have the following bi-weekly events this week:

  • PJ Story Time – Wed. March 5th at 6:30pm.
  • Music For Munchkins – Thurs. March 6th at 10:30am.

Also, Dr. Seuss‘s birthday is this week so we will be honoring him by reading The Cat in the Hat, one of his most popular stories. We hope you can join us!


Celebrate The Beatles – Part 1 on 2/5


Local Beatles enthusiast Dave Hawley will be presenting his first of two Beatles-themed events at the Sidney Library this month, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the “British Invasion”. At 7:00pm on Wednesday February 5th in the Smart Community Room, Dave will show The Beatles: the First US Visit, a day-by-day look at the Beatles’ first tour in the USA. Beatles fans, you would not want to miss this opportunity to watch them on the big screen.
