Book Discussion – Invention of Wings 10/21

Do you enjoy historical fiction? Join the Library Friends for their book discussion group on October 21 at 11:30 am. The book is Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd, which is set in the South in the early 1800′s and centers around the anti-slavery movement.

Come Watch Dead Poets’ Society 9/28

The Friends of the Libraries restart their monthly movie event this Sunday, September 28th at 1:30pm in the Smart Community Room. This month’s movie is Dead Poets’ Society featuring Robin Williams and is free and open to the public.

Library Hours

Now that summer is over, the Sidney Library will once again be open on Sundays from 1:00 – 4:00pm. Our other hours will stay the same.

Library Closed for Labor Day 9/1

The Sidney Library will be closed on Monday, September 1st in observance of Labor Day. We will resume normal hours on Tuesday.

Kids Program – Dan Chase & His Reptiles 7/16

On Wednesday, July 16th at 6:30pm, Dan the Snakeman will be doing a program at the Sidney Library. This program, which is free and open to families, will be a time for Dan to share information about his reptiles and children will also be able to touch some of the animals. We hope you can join us!

Science Experiments for Kids – July

As part of our summer entertainment program, the Sidney Library staff will host science experiments for school age kids. These activities use everyday household objects to learn more about science in our world. The dates and topics for July are:

Grades K-3: Tuesdays, 1:30-2:30pm

  • July 8 – Acids & Bases
  • July 15 – Absorbing & Dissolving
  • July 22 – Candy Science
  • July 29 – Air & Forces

Grades 4-6: Wednesdays, 1:30-2:30pm

  • July 9 – Forensic Science
  • July 16 – Microscope Science
  • July 23 – Candy Science
  • July 30 – Science & Your Body

Kids’ Summer Activities at the Branch Libraries

Story and craft time will be hosted by both Sidney Center and Masonville branch libraries during the month of July. Preschool and school-age children are invited to join us at the following times:

  • Sidney Center Branch Library – every Monday in July – 2:00-2:45pm
  • Masonville Branch Library – every Monday in July – 3:30-4:15pm

Upcoming Computer Workshops for June

Sidney Library’s Public Computing Center is offering a number of workshops during the month of June. A sample of topics include:

  • Introduction to Windows 8
  • How to Use Ancestry.com, Library Edition
  • Documents and Folders (keeping your computer organized)

Open hours have also been established. During these times, patrons are welcome to stop by for one-on-one help, such as using their e-reader or help using a particular website. In addition, we have scanners and a Mac computer available for use.

Spring Book Sale 4/10-4/12

The Friends of the Libraries are holding their big book sale April 10-12. This is held in the Smart Community Room and offers hardcover and softcover books, as well as CD’s, DVD’s, and magazines for sale.

The hours are as follows:

  • Thursday, April 10th: 6 – 8pm
  • Friday, April 11th: 9:30am – 5pm
  • Saturday, April 12th: 10am – 1pm

Writers’ Group to Meet 3/31

Writers’ Group is new to the Sidney Library. Its first meeting will be Monday, March 31st at 6:30pm in the Smart Community Room. The group hopes to provide a place for writers to share their projects and receive constructive feedback from others. This group is open to all, so if you are interested please join us!
