The Sidney Library is holding their big book sale this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, October 9-11 in the Smart Community Room. If you’re interested in buying books of any genre, CD’s, DVD’s, VHS tapes, or magazines, stop by! The times are:
Do you have preschool or school-age children who enjoy playing with Legos? Join Sidney Library staff member Linda for a new program called Lego Time, which will be held Wednesday Sept. 17th at 4:00pm. We will have Legos available to create with and may have a challenge or two, just for fun.
For kids who have been keeping track of their reading to earn free books, please note that all Independent Reading Logs must be turned in to the Sidney Library by Saturday, August 30th. There is a little blue bucket at our circulation desk where they can be placed.
The Spoon Man, aka Jim Cruise, is a published author who offers a hilarious interactive comedy program for children of all ages. He has a totally clean act because he never uses dirty silverware. Come see The Spoon Man at Sidney Memorial Public Library on Wednesday, August 6 at 10:00am. Just show up for some good clean fun – this program is free and open to all.
Watch the children erupt into laughter when Doctor VilCaino, aka Ron Cain, appears at the Sidney Memorial Public Library on Wednesday, July 30th at 10:00am. There will be illusions that celebrate science and feature great scientists like Albert Einstein and Thomas Edison. This performance is sponsored by the Friends of the Libraries and is free and open to all.
As part of our summer entertainment program, the Sidney Library staff will host science experiments for school age kids. These activities use everyday household objects to learn more about science in our world. The dates and topics for August are:
In recognition of this year’s theme of “Fizz, Boom, Read!”, we are pleased to present Soda Bottle Science – A Delightful Deluge of Dirt Cheap Science Experiments That Go Fizz, Boom and Pop! by winning author and science celebrity Steve “The Dirtmeister” Tomecek. Steve will be at the Sidney Library on Wednesday, July 23rd at 10:00 am. During the program, Steve will explore over a dozen different science experiments that kids can safely do at home using soda bottles, coffee cans, sandwich bags and other household items. This event is free and open to the public. Following the program, Steve will be available to meet and greet the audience and will also be available to autograph copies of some of his awesome books including his Scholastic books, Soda Bottle Science, Coffee Can Science, and Sandwich Bag Science.
On Wednesday, July 16th at 6:30pm, Dan the Snakeman will be doing a program at the Sidney Library. This program, which is free and open to families, will be a time for Dan to share information about his reptiles and children will also be able to touch some of the animals. We hope you can join us!
