For kids who have been keeping track of their reading to earn free books, please note that all Independent Reading Logs must be turned in to the Sidney Library by Saturday, August 30th. There is a little blue bucket at our circulation desk where they can be placed.
The Spoon Man, aka Jim Cruise, is a published author who offers a hilarious interactive comedy program for children of all ages. He has a totally clean act because he never uses dirty silverware. Come see The Spoon Man at Sidney Memorial Public Library on Wednesday, August 6 at 10:00am. Just show up for some good clean fun – this program is free and open to all.
Watch the children erupt into laughter when Doctor VilCaino, aka Ron Cain, appears at the Sidney Memorial Public Library on Wednesday, July 30th at 10:00am. There will be illusions that celebrate science and feature great scientists like Albert Einstein and Thomas Edison. This performance is sponsored by the Friends of the Libraries and is free and open to all.
As part of our summer entertainment program, the Sidney Library staff will host science experiments for school age kids. These activities use everyday household objects to learn more about science in our world. The dates and topics for August are:
In recognition of this year’s theme of “Fizz, Boom, Read!”, we are pleased to present Soda Bottle Science – A Delightful Deluge of Dirt Cheap Science Experiments That Go Fizz, Boom and Pop! by winning author and science celebrity Steve “The Dirtmeister” Tomecek. Steve will be at the Sidney Library on Wednesday, July 23rd at 10:00 am. During the program, Steve will explore over a dozen different science experiments that kids can safely do at home using soda bottles, coffee cans, sandwich bags and other household items. This event is free and open to the public. Following the program, Steve will be available to meet and greet the audience and will also be available to autograph copies of some of his awesome books including his Scholastic books, Soda Bottle Science, Coffee Can Science, and Sandwich Bag Science.
On Wednesday, July 16th at 6:30pm, Dan the Snakeman will be doing a program at the Sidney Library. This program, which is free and open to families, will be a time for Dan to share information about his reptiles and children will also be able to touch some of the animals. We hope you can join us!
Families are invited to join us for a free program at the Sidney Library on Wednesday July 9th at 6:30pm Barb Field and her character Professor Womboggle join us for the program Fizz, Boom, Read! Professor Womboggle is a goofy science professor with a trunk full of wacky and hilariously funny experiments. She will amaze and entertain you with science principles relating to everyday life with hands on experiments.
There are many opportunities for kids being offered at the Sidney Library this summer. Our staff will offer:
hand-on science program for grades K-3 on Tuesdays
family entertainment on Wednesdays
science experiments for grades 4-6 on Wednesdays
movies on Thursdays
In addition, regular children’s programs like lapsit, toddler story time, and preschool story time will all continue.
Kids will also be able to join our Independent Summer Reading Program and earn a free book for every 300 minutes of reading. More information will come in future newsletters (available at the library) and on our website.
There will be another Kids Tech program on Friday, June 27th from 2-3pm in the Public Computing Center (downstairs in the Sidney Library). Children ages 8-12 are invited to join us for fun on the computers, iPads, and Smartboard. We will also enjoy some games and puzzles.
