Sidney residents, please note: the 2016-2017 Sidney Memorial Public Library budget will be put to a vote on Tuesday, May 17th 2016. We encourage you to cast your vote!
Voting takes place at the Sidney High School. According to the Sidney CSD website, polls will be open from 7:00am – 8:00pm.
Many people stop by our library website to see articles on the main page, but there is a lot of information here. A few of the pages that change regularly are in the menu at the top of the page:
- Kids / Teens – this shows a list of regular and special programs for kids, including story times.
- Programs – this shows upcoming programs and art exhibits for adults.
- Library Friends – this has information about movie showings, the monthly book club, and book sales sponsored by the Friends of the Libraries. All are welcome to events sponsored by the Friends.
The Sidney Library has some part-time positions opening soon for high school students.
Students must be available to work evenings and weekends throughout the year at the Sidney Memorial Public Library in downtown Sidney.
If you are interested and will have completed 10th grade by July 1, 2016, please stop by the library and
complete a student application. The deadline for applications is April 29, 2016.
Next week is National Library Week. As you know, libraries are amazing resources for those who want to read books, watch movies, or simply use the internet for free. However, many people do not have a library card. We ask that you encourage your friends to come visit us and get their own library card so they will have access to these great resources too.
As a thank you to our wonderful patrons, the Friends of the Libraries have purchased sturdy card holders (above). These will be given out during National Library Week. Supplies are limited.
In observance of the Easter holiday, the Sidney Library will be closed on Sunday, March 27th 2016. We will resume normal hours on Monday.
The Sidney Library is excited to be part of the county wide Seed Swap program again this year. Look for the small wooden card catalog near our main desk.
We have a small variety of seeds to start off the program. Bring in your old seeds (from 2015) or leftovers from this spring’s planting. Flower, herb, and vegetable seeds are all welcome. See what’s here, and help yourself to a few seeds for your own garden.
We have something new in the children’s section of the Sidney Library, just past the puppets. Check out our bookshelf of pamphlets, books, and other resources that all relate to parenting. With everything from baby food recipes to books about teenagers, we hope you find something helpful.
In observance of Presidents’ Day, the Sidney Library and branches will be closed on Monday, February 15th 2016. We will resume normal hours on Tuesday.
In observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, the Sidney Library and its branches in Masonville and Sidney Center will be closed on Monday, January 18th, 2016. We will resume normal business hours on Tuesday the 19th.
The Sidney Library will have a limited supply of federal income tax forms and instructions in the near future. We will no longer have access to reproducible federal forms. This is due to the continued growth in electronic filing (e-filing) and the IRS’s attempt to reduce costs.
Don’t worry: there are ways to get any federal form or instruction packet. The IRS website, www.irs.gov, always has forms available for download. In addition, you can call and request forms be mailed to you. According to the IRS website:
You can call 1-800-TAX-FORM (800-829-3676) Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time to order current year forms, instructions and publications as well as prior year forms and instructions by mail. You will receive your order by mail, usually within 10 days.
We expect to have our regular supply of state income tax forms.
