Delaware County Historical Program 10/4


We are excited that Tim Duerden and Ray LaFever of the Delaware County Historical Association will be here on Tuesday, October 4th, 2016 at 6:30pm. They will present their new book Images of America: Delaware County which any local history lover will not want to miss. It features photos and stories from the DCHA’s archives.

This program is free to the public – we hope to see you there!


Movie Matinees are Back

The Friends of the Libraries will resume their movie matinees on Sunday, September 25th at 1:30pm. These movies are free and open to the public.

This month’s movie is Bridge of Spies and features Tom Hanks. Set during the Cold War, an American lawyer is recruited to defend an arrested Soviet spy in court. You can watch the trailer below.


Artist on Display

Come see the artwork of local artist Joanne Osterhout in the Sidney Library’s Smart Community Room. Ms. Osterhout and her husband Warren live in Bainbridge and founded Dust Bunny Frames. Her photography is displayed in their handmade frames, built from recycled barn wood.

This artwork is on display through October, and can be viewed anytime the library is open.


Book Club to Meet 9/20


This month’s book discussion, hosted by the Friends of the Libraries, will meet on Tuesday September 20th at 11:30am in the Smart Community Room. All are welcome to join us as we discuss Delicious!, a book written by Ruth Reichl.

Meet the Author 9/20


On Tuesday, September 20th at 6:30pm, the Sidney Library will host author Ginnah Howard for a presentation on her book I’m Sick of This Already: At-Risk Learning in a High School Class. Ms Howard’s book is a work of nonfiction and focuses on her work with a challenging group of rural students as she helped them with literacy.

This program is free and open to the public. Please join us in the Smart Community Room!


New After School Program Begins 9/8


School age kids are invited to join us after school on Thursdays from 3:00 – 5:00pm for a new program called Afterschool Explorers. Kids will have fun with experiments, educational games, creative writing, arts & crafts, movement activities, and more.

Kids ages 5 and up are welcome.


Astronomy Tech Class 8/31

Want to learn how your phone or tablet can help you when looking at the night sky? We are offering a special evening computer class on Wednesday, August 31st 2016 at 6:30pm. Come learn about some great astronomy apps and join us for a short ‘field trip’ to try them out.

This class is free but registration is required. Register online, in person at the library, or by calling us at 563-1200.


Summer Reading Program Ends 8/26

Kids who are keeping track of their reading on a Summer Reading Log and adults completing the Exercise Your Mind & Body Bingo sheets: please note that all logs/forms must be turned back in to the library by Friday August 26, 2016. Hand them in at the front desk for your chance to win!


Animal Adventure 8/24

The folks from Animal Adventure will come to the library on Wednesday, August 24th 2016 at 6:30pm for our final Family Entertainment program of the summer. Come learn about animals, see some up close, and maybe even touch one!
