Come Watch The Martian 10/23

The Martian is one of the most fascinating movies of 2015. It is adapted from the novel by Andy Weir, who did tons of research to make sure the story was as realistic as possible.

You can watch it on the big screen in our Smart Community Room on Sunday, October 23rd at 1:30pm. It is free – all are welcome to attend!

Our semi-annual big book sale is coming up! The Smart Community Room will be filled with books and media for sale. Stop by on the following dates and see what goodies we have to offer.

  • Thursday, October 20th, 6 – 8pm
  • Friday, October 21st, 9:30am – 5pm
  • Saturday, October 22nd, 10am – 1pm



Book Club to Meet 10/18


The Friends of the Libraries book discussion group will meet on Tuesday, October 18th at 11:30am in the Smart Community Room. All are welcome to join the group as they discuss their selection for the month, The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George.


Library Closed 10/10


In observance of Columbus Day, the Sidney Library will be closed on Monday, October 10th, 2016. We will resume normal hours on Tuesday.


Come Watch the Jungle Book 10/7

We will show the new Jungle Book movie on the big screen in our Smart Community Room on Friday, October 7th at 1pm. It was released this year and features the voices of Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson. Come watch with us!

Delaware County Historical Program 10/4


We are excited that Tim Duerden and Ray LaFever of the Delaware County Historical Association will be here on Tuesday, October 4th, 2016 at 6:30pm. They will present their new book Images of America: Delaware County which any local history lover will not want to miss. It features photos and stories from the DCHA’s archives.

This program is free to the public – we hope to see you there!


Movie Matinees are Back

The Friends of the Libraries will resume their movie matinees on Sunday, September 25th at 1:30pm. These movies are free and open to the public.

This month’s movie is Bridge of Spies and features Tom Hanks. Set during the Cold War, an American lawyer is recruited to defend an arrested Soviet spy in court. You can watch the trailer below.


Artist on Display

Come see the artwork of local artist Joanne Osterhout in the Sidney Library’s Smart Community Room. Ms. Osterhout and her husband Warren live in Bainbridge and founded Dust Bunny Frames. Her photography is displayed in their handmade frames, built from recycled barn wood.

This artwork is on display through October, and can be viewed anytime the library is open.


Book Club to Meet 9/20


This month’s book discussion, hosted by the Friends of the Libraries, will meet on Tuesday September 20th at 11:30am in the Smart Community Room. All are welcome to join us as we discuss Delicious!, a book written by Ruth Reichl.

Meet the Author 9/20


On Tuesday, September 20th at 6:30pm, the Sidney Library will host author Ginnah Howard for a presentation on her book I’m Sick of This Already: At-Risk Learning in a High School Class. Ms Howard’s book is a work of nonfiction and focuses on her work with a challenging group of rural students as she helped them with literacy.

This program is free and open to the public. Please join us in the Smart Community Room!
