How to Talk To Your Kids about COVID-19

So…for as much as we have said you and your kids shouldn’t obsess over COVID-19 and drive yourselves bonkers, it is difficult to miss the barrage of information/cases/stories/warnings/etc coming at us from all media sources. If your kiddos are showing concerns, here is an interesting article about how to talk to them about the coronavirus. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/community/schools-childcare/talking-with-children.html.

Actors Reading to Kids

Good Morning Library Parents and Littles!! Here’s an awesome resource for your kids (and maybe you, too?) where actors and actresses are reading children’s books and giving them a good dose of theater and personality! (I just listened to “A Bad Case of the Stripes” read by Sam from LOTR to see how it works!!!) It’s a lot of fun and they do a fabulous job! It might a good stand-in for school library or reading circle time while your kids are home. Enjoy! https://www.storylineonline.net

Free Wi-fi Available Even When We are Closed

Good Morning, all! Just a reminder that even though we are closed because of the coronavirus pandemic, our Wifi is still on, available, and free to the public! You can sit on the porch, or if you prefer, sit in your car in our driveway. You’d still be able to use the WiFi via your phone, tablet, or laptop!

Lunch Time Doodles with Author Mo Willems

Hi Fairview Parents and Library Littles!!! For fans of “Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus” (and other Pigeon books) as well as “Elephant and Piggie,” and “Knuffle Bunny,” Mo Willems (the author) is inviting kids to virtually doodle with him in his studio every afternoon during the school closures! It is every afternoon at 1 pm. Here’s the link in case any of your kiddos want to partipate: http://pigeonpresents.com . Have fun, and if you’re feeling up to it, maybe share with us what the Library Littles have created by posting below!

Scholastic Offering Free Courses During School Closure

Good morning parents of our Library Littles! It is important to the sanity of all of us that we keep busy and not be constantly obsessing over what’s going on in the world right now. We are all doing our part to be prepared, which is wonderful! But in the spirit of keeping things fun, lighter, and a bit more normal for our Littles, we will be sharing some information with you each day during this time. This morning, we wanted to share that Scholastic is offering free online courses while schools are closed! This is one of many sites offering educational activities for Littles right now, and we will share more as this continues. Check out this article for more: https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/15/us/scholastic-coronavirus-students-trnd/index.html

Fairview Public Library respects the governor’s plea for non-essential business to close. We will be open today, Tuesday March 17, and tomorrow, Wednesday March 18 from 11 am to 5 pm to allow people to pick up any pending interlibrary loan items or to stock up on books. At 5 pm on Wednesday, we will close to the public. Books can still be returned in the book slot on the porch and no fines will accrue during our closure. The library will definitely be closed through April 1 (two weeks) and we will re-evaluate the situation at that time. Please remember, the public computers have already been shut down but wifi for use outside the building is always on. Also, we are limiting the number of people in the library at one time so a wait is possible.

Random Acts of Kindness at Fairview

Today our Library Littles made some inspirational bookmarks and have hidden them randomly in books throughout the library! If you check out one of our lovely literary treasures, you just might be gifted with a smile as you see what they’ve created to brighten your day.

Kids Kindness Craft: No-sew Towel Tug Toys for Shelter Dogs

This very special Kindness Craft on March 13th at 3:30 pm is another to help shelter animals. Last time we made no-sew catnip toys, and THIS TIME we are making no-sew tug toys from old towels for the shelter dogs! IF YOU HAVE ANY OLD TOWELS YOU COULD DONATE TO THIS CAUSE, PLEASE BRING THEM WITH YOU! Otherwise, there will be some towels provided, and we will make as many toys as we can to enrich these dogs’ lives. As with the cat toys, the tug toys will be donated to Heart of the Catskills Humane Society in Delhi, NY.

If you want a sneak peek as to how it’s done (and where the adorable photo above came from), check out this link here: https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/life/pets/a20707595/diy-towel-dog-toy/?&utm_term=1154214743
