FOVL Sunday Program, September 16, 3-4pm: “A Conversation with Kelley Rourke of the Glimmerglass Festival: Librettist, Translator, Dramaturge”

On Sunday, September 16 at 3:00 pm in the Village Meeting Room at 22 Main St., the Friends of the Village Library Sunday Series kicks off the 2018-2019 season with “A Conversation with Kelley Rourke of the Glimmerglass Festival: Librettist, Translator, Dramaturge.”
Kelley Rourke is resident dramaturg for The Glimmerglass Festival and the Washington National Opera. She has written libretti for three youth operas at The Glimmerglass Festival: Odyssey and Robin Hood (both with Ben Moore) and Wilde Tales (with Laura Karpman), shown in above photo). Rourke’s modern English adaptations of numerous standard and not-so-standard operas have been hailed as “crackingly witty” (The Independent, London) and “remarkably well wedded to the music and versification in arias” (New York Times).
Rourke’s work as a collaborative writer is supported and informed by nearly two decades of practicing and teaching yoga and mindfulness. Since 2010 Rourke has been engaged to teach mindfulness practices to public school students, teachers and administrators in cities including New York City, Houston, Indianapolis, El Paso and Columbia, SC.
Most recently, Cooperstownians could view Rourke’s work at the 2018 Glimmerglass Festival in the English adaptation of Janacek’s The Cunning Little Vixen and the youth opera Odyssey.
This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Village Library. It is free and open to the public.
